Lady Cyclones make runner-up showing

KINGSPORT--The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones took a second-place finish Wednesday night in the Kingsport-Dobyns Bennett JV Holiday Classic. They defeated Tennessee High for the second time in the tournament, 53-36 in the semifinal round.
Kyla Jones led the team with 15 points while Hannah Fritz put up 13 points and 11 rebounds. Kelli Culler tallied eight points, including one three pointer.
For Tennessee High, Jones put up 14 points, six of which came from outside the parameter.
The Lady Cyclones then took on Daniel Boone in the championship round and took their first loss of the year, 47-38.
Jones again led the team, collecting 15 points, and Marti Bush tallied six points. Kelli Culler, Fritz and Leah Henson each tallied four points.
Caldwell and Houser both had nine points for the Lady Trailblazers.
Jones and Fritz were selected to the all-tournament team while Daniel Boone's Herron was selected as MVP.
"We are pretty pleased," EHS coach Harry Farthing said. "Second place is a good finish. We had two good wins over Tennessee High and another good win over Jefferson County. Daniel Boone is a good team and they flat out outplayed us.
"We are playing pretty good basketball right now and we are looking forward to the second half of the season. We have only played at home twice, so it will be nice to play at home again in January."
Jefferson County defeated Tennessee High for the third-place honors.
The Cyclones are now 7-1 and will return to the hardwood again on Jan. 3.
