'Toppers fend off Jr. Bulldogs

from staff reports

Hampton didn't have enough to knock off highly-touted Science Hill. The Junior Bulldog effort was valiant, nevertheless.
With the exception of the first quarter of play, Hampton played the Junior Hilltoppers a pretty even game in a 56-44 Science Hill victory on Tuesday night.
"We played pretty well," Junior Bulldog coach Leon Tolley said of his team's performance. "We battled back and cut it down to five points with two minutes left, but our mental mistakes sealed our fate.
"They have a very good team and I'm proud of the way our team accepted the challenge."
Hampton, (4-3 overall, 2-0 in conference) trailed 15-8 at the end of the first quarter and 38-29 heading into the fourth quarter.
Jordan Honeycutt showed the way for the Junior 'Dogs, pouring in 16 points. Cody Ford chipped in eight points, followed by Eric Cole with seven.
Michael Forney, with 19 points and three 3-pointers, was tops for the Junior 'Toppers. Brandon Howard added 16 points and Landon Turner 10.
The Junior 'Dogs will entertain Cloudland this Friday, with games starting at 12:30 p.m.
