LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Rain and mud was the order of the day for the NAIA National Cross Country Championships on Saturday, but it didn't slow down the pace of, junior Megan Lease, who powered her way to a 10th-place finish to equal the school record for the highest-placed finisher at a national championship while gaining another All-American honor.
Lease clocked a time of 18.13 on the 5k course, bettering her winning time at the regional meet.
"She ran really tough and didn't let the conditions change her race plan," said Milligan head coach Chris Layne.
Marta Zimon was next home for the Lady Buffs, in 19.42, followed closely by freshman teammate Jessica Carpenter in 19.58. Rounding out the team score was freshman trio Erika Fox, Megan Allen and Kortney Goulds.
Milligan finished the season nationally ranked with a 24th-place finish as a team.
On the men's side, the Buffaloes had two competitors in the men's 8k race. Junior Chris Wright, who placed 43rd in a time of 25.56, and freshman Nathan Bowers, who finished with a time of 27.35.
"The course was really torn up for men, but they both ran a smart race" Layne said.
