Buffs beat UC at buzzer

  BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- With senior Todd Davis banking in a running jumper as time expired, the Milligan College Buffaloes defeated Union (Ky.) College 75-73 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup Saturday evening.
  Union had cut a 14-point Buffs' lead down to a five-point lead with a minute to go. The Bulldogs tied the game at 73 with 11 seconds left.
  With the win, the Buffs improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the AAC while Union falls to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the AAC.
  Leading the way for the Buffs' victory was senior forward Craig Emmert (Cass City, Mich.) as he led all scorers with 25 points and grabbed a game high of nine rebounds. A pair of Buffs' freshmen also posted double-digits point totals as guard Anthony Wilhelm (Petoskey, Mich.) and forward Harvey Bell (Spartanburg, S.C.) scored 15 and 10 respectively. Davis scored six points in the contest with two coming on the winning basket.
  The leading scorer for Union was Chris Stunson with 15 points.
  Milligan held the halftime advantage of 37-23 as the Buffs shot 48.1 (13 of 27) pct compared to Union's 26.7 (8 of 30) field goal pct. in the first half. The Buffs ended the game with a 45.6 (26 of 57) pct., as the Bulldogs improved in the second half to finish at 42.6 (23 of 54) pct.
  The Buffaloes were nearly automatic at the free throw line as they converted 20 out of their 23 shots from the line in the game.
  "The guys showed a lot of character with the game on the line," said Milligan assistant coach Tae Norwood.
  Next for the Buffaloes is a road trip to play Wofford (S.C.) College from the Southern Conference Monday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. The next AAC game for Milligan is Wednesday, Nov. 24, as the Buffs travel to Athens, Tenn. to face off against Tennessee Wesleyan College at 7:30 p.m.
