The Cloudland Jr. Highlanders clearly had the will to win against the Central Comets on Thursday night, taking a quartet of middle school basketball games at Sonny Smith Gymnasium.
In varsity boys action, Cloudland prevailed by a 46-36 score over the pesky Comets.
Nick Sluder paved the way with nine points while Randal Johnson tossed in eight for Cloudland. Lucas Clawson chipped in with six points and nine rebounds.
Adrian Hopson and Clint Hoilman paced the Comets with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Cloudland held a 22-11 advantage at the half before the Comets cut the deficit to 28-25 heading into the fourth quarter.
"Give Central all the credit," said Highlander coach Todd Hill. "They hustled the entire night. I was extremely disappointed in our performance, although Nick Sluder had a good game."
Cloudland won the boys B-team game, 18-8.
In girls varsity action, the Lady Jr. Highanders rolled to a 44-24 victory.
The Roan Mountain squad came out hotter than fried bologna in a hot iron skillet by taking a commanding 35-6 lead at the half. Samantha Buchanan paced Cloudland with seven points while Shellie McKinney, Sydnie Buchanan and Brooke Johnson followed with six each.
Emily Bradley and Whitney Murray tossed in five each to lead the Lady Comets.
Cloudland won the girls B-team game 18-10 behind a six-point performance from Ashley Johnson. Murray tallied all 10 points for Central.
