Promising results for Elizabethton swimmers

KINGSPORT--The 11th annual Southern Sprints were
held on Tuesday night at Sullivan South High School, where
the Elizabethton swim team garnered some promising results.
In the women's competition, Lady Cyclone freshman
Ruth Ann Johnson posted a fifth-place finish in the 250-yard
freestyle, swimming a time of 3:12.53. She also took sixth
in the 100-yard individual medley, posting a 1:15.04.
EHS teammate Sarah Burgayne, a junior, came in
fifth in the 100-yard individual medley, recording a 1:14.64,
while 'Betsy freshman Amber Garland was 10th (14.86) among
44 competitors in the 25-yard free.
For Elizabethton in the men, senior Blake Dugger
seized fifth place (1:05.89) in the 100-yard individual medley
as well as sixth (27.76) in the 50-yard fly.
The Cyclones' Craig Shaw, a senior, registered
a pair of top 10 finishes, taking sixth (3:01.88) in the 250-yard
free and ninth (58.93) in the 100-yard free. Junior Matthew
Bowers added a sixth-place showing (36.15) in the 50-yard
breast.
Eric Crowe, Bowers, Shaw and Dugger swam a 1:50.57
in the 200-yard free relay, good enough for fourth place.
Shaw, Crowe, Dugger and Garrett Johnson finished
fourth in the 100-yard medley relay with a 57.53.
