Jr. 'Dogs top Cloudland

from staff reports

Riding a 15-point performance from Dustin Jaynes and rising to the occasion in the second half, Hampton's Jr. Bulldogs registered a 37-26 basketball victory over Cloudland in Roan Mountain on Monday afternoon.
After the Jr. Highlanders battled Hampton to a 15-15 halftime deadlock, the Jr. 'Dogs were able to gain a bit of an edge in the third quarter, taking a 24-20 lead into the final period of play.
Hampton (6-1, 1-0) then finished strong down the stretch.
"We knew going into the game what a good team Cloudland had," said Jr. Bulldog coach Leon Tolley. "Our boys gave a great effort defensively in the second half to pull out the win.
"Cloudland gave us trouble early. They run their stuff very well. Everytime we play them it is going to be tough. They really have a good team."
Jarred Irick chipped in 10 points for the Jr. 'Dogs, while Michael Lunsford's 11 topped Cloudland.
Hampton plays host to Boones Creek tonight, starting at 5:30 p.m. Boys and girls junior varsity games will precede a boys varsity tilt.
The Jr. 'Landers return to action at home, vs. Unaka, on Dec. 8.
