Grabbing the upper hand with a strong second quarter, Hampton's Jr. Bulldogs went on to capture a 42-28 basketball victory over Central on the Comets' home floor Monday night.
Turning a two-point, end-of-the-first-quarter deficit -- Central led 12-10 -- into a 23-16 halftime lead, Hampton was on its way to improving its record to 5-1.

Wesley Church, who scored 14, was high man for the Comets. Daniel Loveless chipped in six.
"A good win for us," said Hampton coach Leon Tolley. "Central is a very talented ballclub. They are going to be a load come tournament time.
"We had a great effort tonight, and it took every bit of it to pull out the win. I'm proud of our team. Now we have to prepare for Johnson County on Thursday."
Four games are slated between Hampton and Johnson County, starting with girls junior varsity action at 5 p.m.
Central will play at Range on Thursday (boys only). The first of two games tips off at 5:30 p.m.
