Elizabethton's Mains wins Promotional Award

from staff reports

Appalachian League executives and directors have given one of only two awards given by league officials each year to Mike Mains, general manager for the 2003 champion Elizabethton Twins.
Mains was presented the Appalachian League Promotional Award at the league's fall meeting. held last week at Milligan College, where the Twins were also awarded their championship pennant.
The Promotinal Award recognizes the executive whose organization displays excellence in off-season marketing/promotions, media and public relations, game-day promotions, team publications and unique ballpark ideas.
During his first four years as general manager for Elizabethton, Mains has seen attendance more than double, largely due to the effort he and his staff have made to schedule new, creative and sometimes unusual promotional events for Twins fans.
The Twins have also reached out to the community, scheduling numerous player appearances at schools and local churches.
The Elizabethton Twins also work closely with non-profit organizations in an effort to give something back to the community.
In 2003, the Twins, for the first time in the history of the organization, had a promotional event scheduled for every home game during a season.
These events were created to reach every age group in the community and to give minor league baseball fans an opportunity to enjoy family entertainment both on and off the field.
Mains was also honored as the Appalachian League General Manager of the Year in 2001.
