The South Lady Rebels wished that they Hampton Lady Bulldogs didn't have as much Joy as they did in Saturday's matchup in the Warrior Thanksgiving Classic.
It wasn't Joy of heart that the Rebels were wishing against, it was Lady Bulldog Joy Gardner. Gardner tied for game high honors as she blistered the nets for 16 points in leading the Bulldogs to a 47-42 victory on Saturday at Bayless Gymnasium.
The game was evenly matched for most of the contest as Hampton managed a 10-7 lead at the end of one. Kari Stout scored three in the period to stake Hampton to it's narrow margin.
The Bulldogs came out in a tough full-court press at the start of the second period, which forced the Lady Rebels into several miscues. Meanwhile, Gardner began lighting up the scoreboard as she hit a trey and two buckets in the quarter for seven points.
Jodi Stout contributed four points in the quarter as well for the Bulldogs as they extended the 10-7 lead into a 29-20 affair entering the break. Holly Jones showed the way for South as she scored seven points in the half to lead the Lady Rebels.
The Lady Rebels made some half-time adjustments and came looking for some Bulldog hide in the third period. Behind Ashley Prendergast six points, the Rebels were able to cut the lead to 34-30 with 1:10 remaining in the quarter.
Gardner then hit a bucket to push the lead back to six at 36-30, as the period came to an end. South had enough gas for one last push as they entered the final period of play.
Jones got the hot hand for the Rebels in the fourth, as she tallied seven in the quarter. It was not enough though as Kari Stout also found her groove hitting eight big points to help the Bulldogs maintain the advantage and take the victory.
Besides Gardner scoring barrage, Kari Stout contributed 13 and Jodi Stout 6 for the Lady Dogs'. Jones led South, matching Gardner with an 16 point output. Ashley Prendergast followed Jones with 12 for the Lady Rebels.
Lady Cougars maul Lady Highlanders 54-39

The Lady Cougars of Central had a full course of Turkey on Thanksgiving. On Saturday, they whetted their appetites on some Cloudland Lady Highlanders.
The Lady Cougars stormed out to a 20-6 first period lead behind the aggressive play of Lindsey McGrady who scored nine in the quarter. The Lady Highlanders couldn't muster much offense as the Cougars swarmed with a smothering defense.
The second quarter wasn't much different, as Central managed to get Cloudland's Taukia Hughes and Tara Hanson into some early foul trouble. The Landers actually outscored the Cougars 11-9 in the period behind four points from post Amy Storie and three from Hanson. The Lady Cougars took a 29-17 lead into intermission.
The Cougars raced away from the Landers in the third as they outscored Cloudland 18-10. Kristie Moody netted seven leading Central in the period. The Landers lost some scoring pop, as Hughes fouled out with 1:29 left in the third.
The Landers managed to outscore the Cougars in the fourth 12-7, but it would not be enough as Central took the win 54-39. Stachia Johnson scored five and Crystal Arnold added four in the quarter for the Lady Landers.
McGrady paced the winners with 14 while Moody added nine, Amber Sally nine, and Lauren Burke netted eight. Storie fired in 10 in leading the Landers followed by Johnson and Hughes with seven and Hanson's five.
