Warrior teams fare well at state event

   NASHVILLE -- Keeping up with tradition, the Happy Valley Warriors can hold their heads high after the Class A-AA state cross-country meet held Saturday at Percy Warner Park.
   With David Hughes legging out a strong second-place finish in the individuals, the Happy Valley boys team seized a third-place showing, while Katie Williams' third-place effort helped the Warrior come in at ninth-place.
   Recording a time of 15:49.28, Hughes was runner-up to Franklin Road Academy's Austin Weaver and his 15:19.79.
   Franklin Road Academy captured the boys championship with 29 points. Chattanooga Christian tallied 80 points, followed by Happy Valley with 137.
   Codi Stewart (17:29.24, 35th place), Bo Milhorn (17:39.74, 41st), Brandon Garland (17:41.51, 42nd) and Matt Dalton (17:49.52, 45th) contributed to Happy Valley's overall performance.
   In seventh place was Elizabethton with 211 points. The top finisher for the Cyclones was Andy Ross at 29th (17:22.58), while Matt Young ran a 17:30.05 to take 36th.
   Twenty-nine seconds behind the championship pace set by Fairview's Kori Bledsoe (18:57.34), Williams (19:26.43) gave good representation for the Lady Warriors.
   David Lipscomb's Nan Spicer emerged as the second-place winner, posting a time of 19:20.93.
   Sullivan Central was runner-up to Lipscomb in the girls competition, while University High placed 13th.
   Leading the way for the Lady Cyclones was Megan Pearce, whose 20:29.58 earned her a 16th-place showing.
