Buffs pound on Union by 10-1 score

  The Milligan College Buffaloes soccer team defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Union (Ky.) College by a 10-1 score Wednesday evening at Anglin Field.
  With the win, the Buffs now stand at 9-5-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the AAC.
  Milligan scored first, in the fifth minute, from senior Ali Mohamed with an assist from Ryan Schweizer. The second goal of the half came in the ninth minute once again from Mohamed with the assist from senior Steven Townley.
  Townley went on his own goal scoring spree with the next two Milligan goals in the 18th and 31st minute. His goals were sandwiched around the only goal for Union in the twentieth minute from Bert Kennedy.
  After Townley's second goal, the Buffs struck once again as sophomore Caleb Bollman scored in the 33rd minute off an assist from fellow sophomore David Lilly for the Buffs' final goal of the first half. Milligan took a 5-1 lead into halftime.
  Milligan added the sixth goal of the match in the 63rd minute from Townley with an assist from Stuart Makinson. Mohamed struck for his third goal of the match in the 71st minute with an assist from freshman Kofi Frimpong. The next goal came from Townley once again in the 81st minute.
  Senior Gabriel Hillman scored in the 85th minute for the Buffs. Brett Johnson closed the scoring for Milligan with a goal in the 87th minute to make the match 10-1 in the Buffaloes' favor.
  Milligan outshot the Bulldogs 23-7 in the contest. Sophomore Jordan Fode recorded two saves in goal for the Buffs while Joel Wanyoike recorded one save in relief of Fode.
  "I am proud of the guys," said Milligan head coach Marty Shirley. "Union fought hard to the end and showed great sportsmanship tonight."
  Next for the Buffaloes is a non-conference matchup as Bethel (Tenn.) College visits Anglin Field for a 7 p.m. contest this Friday.
  WOMEN'S SOCCER
  The Milligan College Lady Buffs soccer team was defeated by Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Union (Ky.) College by a 1-0 margin Wednesday evening at Anglin Field.
  With the loss, the Lady Buffs now stand at 8-8-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the AAC.
  Union scored the lone goal of the match before the end of the first half, as in the 38th minute from junior Alessandra Tavoloni (Limeira, Brazil).
  Milligan outshot Union 25-9 in the contest. For the Lady Buffs in goal, sophomore Melissa Thompson was credited with two saves.
  Next for Milligan is their final home contest of the 2004 season, against non-conference foe Cumberland (Tenn.) University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
  BASEBALL
  The Milligan College baseball coaching staff of head coach Danny Clark and assistant coach Ray Smith will give baseball instructional lessons for children age 9-15 on hitting and pitching fundamentals in the months of November and December.
  They will work with four kids per hour as the times of the instructional leagues will be 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., as well as 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. The instructions will be on site at Milligan College, at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. The dates will be November 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17 and 29 and December 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22.
