Wright, Lease shine for Milligan

  The Milligan College cross country teams competed at the Appalachian State Invitational in Boone, N.C., on Friday, and were once again led by All-Americans Chris Wright and Megan Lease.
  Lease finished fourth overall in the women's 5000 meters with a time of 18:48, 23 seconds behind Appalachian State senior Katie Sujkowski. Appy State runners finished 1-2-3.
  The Lady Buffs placed three in the fields top 15 that included teams from Clemson, ETSU, Western Carolina, and UNC Asheville. Junior Marta Zimon was 11th, and freshman Jessica Carpenter finished 12th.
  Milligan finished fifth in the women's team standings, one point behind ETSU and 57 points ahead of Western Carolina. Appalachian State won the women's title with 22 points.
  The Milligan men didn't field a full squad, but were again led by Wright, who finished 13th. Sophomore Josh Ferry came in 37th, while freshmen Nathan Bowers was 47th.
  The men's field was dominated by the University of Texas, which placed 10 men in the top 12.
  The Longhorns won the men's team title with a perfect 1-5 finish and 15 points. Appalachian State was second with 59 points.
  Milligan's men compete next on Oct. 23 at the Southeastern Classic in Versailles, Kent., while the women's next competition is the AAC/Region 12 Championships on Nov. 6 in Louisville.
