Lease equals school mark in Disney event

  ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Milligan College cross country team competed at the Disney Classic at Disney World in Orlando, Florida on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Buffs finished ninth out of 32 teams in the standings on the 5K course while the men finished 12th out of 34 teams at the meet on their 8K course.
  The Lady Buffs were led by junior Megan Lease (Camden, N.C.) as she finished fourth overall with a time of 17:49, which ties the school record held by sophomore Marta Zimon. Zimon (Lodz, Poland) ran number two for Milligan with a time of 18:49 and a finish of 22nd overall.
  Other results for Milligan includes freshman Jessica Carpenter (Elizabethton) with a personal best time of 19:11, which placed her 32nd overall and the time moves Carpenter into the Milligan record book with the fourth best time in school history.
  Freshman Erika Fox (Gambrills, Maryland) ran a personal best at 21:08 along with freshman Kortney Goulds (Johnson City) with a season best time of 21:30.
  Winning the Disney Classic for the women was the University of Florida with 32 points, and the Gators also had the individual winner with Jamie Geisser with a time of 17:38. The Lady Buffs recorded 304 points at the meet for their ninth-place team finish.
  For the Buffaloes at the meet, junior Chris Wright (Ocean City, Maryland) finished 10th overall with a season best time of 25:32. A pair of former Science Hill Hilltoppers ran two and three for Milligan.
  Freshman Nathan Bowers ran the course with a time of 27:13 and sophomore Jair Collie finished the course with a time of 28:08. Also posting a strong time for Milligan was freshman Seth Harkin (Street, Maryland) with a personal best of 28:18.
  Winning the team title was the University of Florida as they scored 45 points. Milligan's 396 points was good enough for their 12th-place finish. The individual title went to Ryder Leary, as the Gator scampered around the course at 24:46.
  Next for the Milligan cross country program will be the Southeastern Classic in Versailles, Ky. on Saturday, Oct. 23 as the Buffs prepare for the Appalachian Athletic Conference/NAIA Region XII Championship in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday, Nov. 6.
  VOLLEYBALL
  MARION, IN -- The Milligan College Lady Buffs volleyball team participated at the Wildcat Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University this weekend. The Lady Buffs finished the matches with a record of 0-4, and now stand at 7-15 overall.

  Aquinas (Michigan) College 3, Milligan College 0

  In the first match of the weekend, sophomore Tara Earhart (Bristol) and freshman Amanda Hyder (Johnson City) led the team with 10 kills each, sophomore Beth Snapp (Kingsport) was credited with 10 digs and freshman Jamie Sly (Franklin) served two aces.
  St. Xavier (Illinois) University 3, Milligan College 0

  In the second match of the day, Earhart led the team with nine kills, while Snapp had 12 digs. Sly and senior Lindsey Wetherholt (Kingsport) served three aces each.
  Saturday, Oct. 9
  University of St. Francis (Illinois) 3, Milligan College 0
  (30-24, 30-18, 30-21)
  The Lady Buffs' first match of Saturday saw Hyder lead the team with 11 kills. Snapp totaled 13 digs while Sly and Earhart each served three aces.
  Mid-American Nazarene (Kansas) University 3, Milligan College 0
  (30-23, 30-11, 30-16)
  The final match of the Invitational saw Earhart with eight kills and two aces while Snapp was credited with 10 digs.
  Next for the Lady Buffs will be an AAC road trip to face Bluefield (Va.) College on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
  SOFTBALL
  KNOXVILLE -- The Milligan College Lady Buffs softball team went 1-2 at the University of Tennessee Fall Tournament at Tyson Park in Knoxville as Milligan lost to NCAA division I Tennessee Tech 6-1 and Tennessee 10-0.
  Milligan rebounded to defeat Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan 2-0 in its final game of the day.
  This ends the Lady Buffs' fall season as Milligan finishes with a record of 6-4.
  WOMEN'S SOCCER
  ATHENS, Tenn. -- The Milligan College Lady Buffs soccer team won an Appalachian Athletic Conference match up at Tennessee Wesleyan College on Saturday by the score of 2-1.
  With the win, the Lady Buffs now stand at 7-5-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the AAC.
  Tennessee Wesleyan scored before the half was over in the 40th minute to take a 1-0 edge into halftime.
  Milligan answered quickly in the second half with a goal from junior Katie Caughell (Clearwater, Fl.) at the 47:43 mark, with the assist coming from sophomore Kristin Zutt (Louisville, Ky.) on a corner kick. Caughell kicked the game-winning goal in the 85th minute under the same conditions as the first goal, a corner kick from Zutt to Caughell.
  The Lady Buffs outshot Tennessee Wesleyan 19-4 in the contest, and sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Hyatt (Elizabethton) recorded one save in the victory.
  Next for Milligan will be a key home AAC contest against Covenant (Ga.) College on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.
  MEN'S SOCCER
  ATHENS, Tenn. -- The Milligan College soccer team and Tennessee Wesleyan College played into overtime, but neither team was able to score in the match, leading to a 0-0 tie.
  With the tie, the Buffs now stand at 6-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the AAC.
  In goal for Milligan was sophomore Jordan Fode (Surrey, BC, Canada), who made two saves in the shutout.
  The Buffaloes out shot TWC 11-3 in the contest in the hard-fought and physical match.
  Next for the Buffaloes will be a home contest against Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) College in a non-conference match up on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
