WILMORE, Ky. -- Milligan senior Ali Mohamed scored in the seventh minute of the game to lead the Buffs past Region 12 foe Asbury College (Ky.), 1-0, on Wednesday. His goal was unassisted.
Milligan outshot Asbury 21-7 in the contest.
Joel Wanyoike occupied Milligan's goal in the first half and recorded one save. Jordan Fode sealed the shutout with three saves in the games second half.
"It's always good to get a win on the road, especially a shutout," said Milligan head coach Marty Shirley. "We're looking forward to facing Region 12 opponent Spaulding on Saturday."
The Saturday contest at Spaulding University (Ky.) kicks off at 2 p.m.
BANNER ELK, N.C. -- The Milligan College Lady Buffs soccer team defeated NCAA division II Lees McRae (N.C.) College by the score of 2-0 Wednesday evening. With the win Milligan now stands at 5-4-1 overall.
The Lady Buffs scored their first goal in the 34th minute on a penalty kick from freshman Dagmar Arnardottir. In the 55th minute, Arnardottir struck again with another goal, getting an assist from Katie Lindemann.
Milligan outshot Lees McRae 17-0 in the contest.
Next for Milligan will be road trip to face Mt. Vernon Nazarene (Oh.) University Saturday at 1 p.m. The Lady Buffs return to Appalachian Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening, Oct. 6, against Bryan (Tenn.) College for a 7 o'clock kickoff.
WISE, Va. -- The Milligan College Lady Buffs volleyball lost at UVA-Wise in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match on Thursday night by the score of 3-0 (30-22, 30-17, 30-24).
Milligan (4-6, 7-10) was led in kills by sophomore Tara Earhart with 13. Freshman Amanda Hyder was credited with 14 digs while freshman Jamie Sly had 37 assists. Earhart and Beth Snapp each served one ace in the match.
Next for the Lady Buffs will be a home match up against AAC rival Brevard on Tuesday, Oct. 5. Action begins at 6:30 p.m.
The Milligan College women's softball team competes this coming Sunday in the Appalachian State University Fall softball tournament in Boone, N.C.
The defending AAC tournament champions will open play against App State at 12 p.m., then play East Tennessee State at 2 p.m. The Lady Buffs close the one-day tourney at 4 p.m. against Young-Harris.
The nationally ranked Milligan College men's and women's cross country teams will host a free running clinic for kids aged 9-15 this Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. behind the softball fields on Milligan's campus.
The clinic will cover proper warm-up techniques, sprint drills, flexibility, training for distance running, and will end with a one-mile fun run.
"The team chose to do this project on their own. It's a great way to promote our sport and give back to the community at the same time," said Milligan head coach Chris Layne.
Athletes present will include All-American's Chris Wright, Megan Lease, and Marta Zimon, as well as former area high school standouts Jessica Carpenter (Elizabethton), Nathan Bowers (Science Hill), Jair Collie (Science Hill) and Kortney Goulds (Happy Valley).
