Bayless honored by TSSAA; HV Sports

Longtime Happy Valley High School basketball coach Charlie
Bayless was honored recently by the Tennessee Secondary School
Athletic Association as their Male Coach of the Year for District
1.
Bayless, who recently turned 80, has over 850 coaching wins
on the hardwood and led the Warriors to the State Championship
in 1974. Previous Bayless-coached teams have also won conference
championships in football, baseball and track at Happy Valley.
However, this award was about more than wins and trophies.
It was given to Bayless for displaying the high ideals of
integrity and ethics and for his examples of citizenship and
sportsmanship.
He was one of 63 recipients of the award throughout the state.
Other categories given the TSSAA awards were School System
Administrator of the Year, Principal of the Year, Athletic
Director of the Year, Female Coach of the Year, Official of
the Year, Contributor of the Year for each of the state's
nine districts.
With the award, Bayless has been invited to attend the TSSAA
regional meeting on Monday, Nov. 3 at Knox Central High School.

RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE HAPPY VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS
CLUB
WHEREAS, the Happy Valley High School Sports Club has spent
many hours volunteering on projects at Happy Valley High School,
and
WHEREAS, the Happy Valley High School Sports Club have completed
baseball and softball fields, field house with bathroom and
concession stands, press box, storage building, new bathroom
facilities, concession stands, septic pump station, batting
cage, dugout, and
WHEREAS, the Happy Valley High School Sports Club constructed
a practice field and an addition to the field house with weight
room, installed new lights and an irrigation system for the
football field, and
WHEREAS, all three Happy Valley schools use the field with
the Sports Club providing the cleanup at no cost; and
WHEREAS, the following are involved on a daily basis in the
maintenance of the park and grounds: Dude Dykes, Richard Sutphin,
Jeff Dykes, Valerie Dykes, Bobby Blevins, Janet Blevins, Keith
Birchfield, Kim Birchfield, Bruce Radford, Carl Roberts, Steve
Babb, Danny Jones, Danny Carp Jones, Andy Havola, Norman Duncan,
and Angela Bishop, Gene Caldwell, Rob Tony, Rick Morgan, Robby
Garland, Bill Dick, Charlie Powell, Teddy Hawkins, and Jerry
Blevins. The following have been involved in projects over
the last 10 years plus: Larry Brown, Ted Maxwell, Richard
Whitson, Roger Snodgrass, Bonnie Snodgrass, Bud Whitehead,
Dana Dykes, Gene Snodgrass, Charlie Bayless, Truman Clark
and Bill Clark.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Carter County Commission
meeting in regular session October 20, 2003, hereby recognizes
members of the Happy Valley High School Sports Club for their
dedication to Happy Valley School Sports teams and to the
continuing operation and maintenance.
