Elizabethton ninth-graders rout 'Blazers

The Elizabethton Cyclone freshman squad delivered again in a big way on Thursday night against Daniel Boone.
Backed behind solid defense and some big runs, the Cyclones put away the Trailblazers with a 49-6 victory.
"We played a really good game tonight and everybody was fired up and ready to get after it," said Elizabethton coach Ryan Witten. "It was a total team effort."
The Cyclones (4-2, 3-1) put up 29 points in the first half, 22 of which came in the first quarter with the help of two touchdown runs from Nick McNeal. Drew Hyder ran a conversion on the second score, while Chase Turley pulled out some big kicks.
Brent Shaver added the final score of the first half with a 12-yard run, then struck paydirt on a 1-yard run to begin the third quarter.
Preston Smith went to the air, finding Josh Hutchins with an 18-yard scoring strike, and Justin Harmon added a 12-yard touchdown jaunt, with Elizabethton kneeling the conversion.
Daniel Boone tallied its lone score in the third period, while the fourth quarter went scoreless for both squads.
Brandon Medina and Austin Taylor added interceptions for Elizabethton, while Jordan Lewis added a fumble recovery.
Elizabethton next faces Johnson County on the road Tuesday.
