Lady 'Horns finish third in district

from staff reports

CHURCH HILL--This season was a step in the right direction for the
   Johnson County volleyball team.
After losing in the opening round of last year's District 1-A/AA tournament, the Lady Longhorns advanced into the second day of this year's event at Volunteer High School.
Johnson County finished third in the event that ended Tuesday.
The Longhorns solidified their third spot by opening the day with a 15-8, 11-15, 15-11 win over Volunteer.
The next match was a battle for a Region Tournament berth against the Sullivan North Lady Raiders. The Longhorns gave a good effort, but fell to North 15-4, 15-8 and were eliminated from the event.
Sullivan Central went on to win the tournament. North also advances to the regionals.
Johnson County was one of the most improved teams around this year, and seniors Ashlee Billings, Rebecca Boney, Heather Burgess, Nikki Davidson, Tamara Smith and Marlena Woods have seen the program turn around in their four years in Mountain City.
