from staff reports

GREENVILLE N.C. -- On Monday night at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium, the Furman Lady Paladins got first half goals from Kat Kelly and Danielle Petro to hold of East Tennessee State 2-1 in Southern Conference play.
Furman scored on it's first two shot attempts, within the first 20-minutes of the match. Kelly headed in a crossing pass from Tara Marker to give the Lady Paladins a one-nil lead in the 15th minute.
Just three minutes later Petro delivered a goal off a pass from Emily Turgeon from within three feet of the Lady Bucs goalkeeper to give Furman a two-goal advantage.
"East Tennessee State played hard tonight," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "I am disappointed in our desire and intensity though. We need to turn some things around before the season progresses much further."
With less than six minutes remaining in the match ETSU's Erin Ashton tallied an unassisted goal to cut the Furman lead to 2-1, but were unable to put in the tying goal in the final minutes of play.
Furman saw it's SoCon record improve to 2-0 (4-3-1, overall), while the Lady Bucs fall to 1-3-1 (2-6-1, overall).
Furman out-shot the Lady Bucs 23-13 and had nine corner kicks to ETSU's two.
