Some WMA's closed to public

Some of the TWRA wildlife management areas in
East Tennessee will close to public access during the winter.
These areas are designated to provide migrating
waterfowl a place to feed and rest, undisturbed by human activities.
These WMA's are closed to public access except in designated
observation areas, each year during the peak of migration.
These areas in East Tennessee that will close
area:
Henderson Island Refuge, Kyker Bottoms Refuge,
Nolichucky WMA, Byrds Bridge to Nolichucky Dam.
DEER HUNTS CANCELED
Because of the heightened state security, the
U.S. Department of Energy has canceled this year's deer hunts
on the DOE's 34,242 acre Oak Ridge Reservation.
DEER HUNTS ON HAAP CANCELED FOR 2001
Deer hunts at Holston Army Ammunition Plant in
Kingsport have been canceled in response to heightened security.
Also Fort Campbell hunting has been closed.
Only individuals who are active duty military,
retired military, or Department of Defense civilians (with
valid identification) are allowed to hunt on Fort Campbell
until further notice.
WILDLIFE COMMISSION TO MEET IN GATLINBURG
The TWRA Commission will meet in Gatlinburg on
October 24 & 25. The two day meeting will begin at 1:00
p.m. EST on October 24 with committee meetings and the Commission
Meeting will be held starting at 9:00 a.m. on he 25th. The
meeting will be held at the River Terrace Resort and Convention
Center, located at 240 River Road in Gatlinburg.
The TWRC will consider several changes in the
fishing regulations and will set the 2002 Wild Turkey Hunting
Season. The TWRC is the governing body of the TWRA and is
responsible for enacting rules, regulations and laws regarding
hunting seasons, bag limits, methods of harvest and other
regulations.
The public is invited to attend and voice their
concerns.
GROUSE AND SECOND SEGMENT OF DOVE HUNTING OPENS
Grouse and the second segment of Dove season
got underway yesterday morning.
The second segment of Dove season will continue
from October 13 through October 28 with a daily bag limit
of 25.
Grouse season is only open in the eastern part
of Tennessee, east of 1-65. The grouse season this year runs
from October 13 until February 28 with a bag limit of 3.
