Milligan cross country teams hold their own at WCU

CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- The Milligan men and women's cross country teams both had strong showings Friday against a field of NCAA Division I runners in the Western Carolina Invitational.
Clemson won the men's race with 23 points.
Freshman Sean Bowman finished 22nd with a time of 26:16. A personal best for Bowman, he helped the Buffs to a fifth place finish and 141 points.
Sophomore Chris Wright also had a good showing with a 26:47 time. Freshman Josh Ferry had a time of 27:13, a personal best.
In the women's race, the Lady Buffs finished fifth with 123 points, with Georgia State taking the top spot with a score of 37.
Sophomore Marta Zimon was the top performer for Milligan, picking up an outstanding fourth-place finish with a time of 17:49, a new personal record and new school record.
Junior Lauren Gross finished 24th for the Buffs. Sophomore Megan Lease followed with a 35th-place finish.
Both the Milligan's men and women's teams were the only NAIA school that finished in the top five again Division I schools.
The Buffs and Lady Buffs return to action Saturday, Sept. 20, as they travel to Asheville, N.C. to compete in the Land of the Sky Invitational.
