4 Mid-Continent survives Buffs in OT
from staff reports
Milligan outplayed the No. 4 team in the nation
for 90 minutes, but a questionable hand-ball propelled Mid-Continent
past Milligan 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Anglin
Field.
In the first minute of overtime the referee made
a hand-ball call in Milligan's box, giving Mid-Continent a penalty
kick that iced the game.
Edwin Nyamwala took the kick and blasted it by
Milligan's goalkeeper Daniel Pavlin to send Mid-Continent to
their fifth victory of the season.
Milligan played most of the second half down a
man. Ali Mohamed received his second yellow card of the match
early in the second half to limit Milligan to only 10 men.
The Buffs opened the scoring in the first half
in the 29th minute when Greg Hochstetter scored from long distance.
Hochstetter controlled the ball and blasted a shot from 30 yards
into the corner of the Mid-Continent net to put Milligan ahead,
1-0.
In the 35th minute, Ignacio Ara broke loose from
the Milligan defense and scored the tying goal for Mid-Continent.
Pavlin played a very good game in goal for the
Buffs. Pavlin made four saves in the game.
Milligan outshot the Cougars 8-4.
Milligan falls to 7-3 while Mid-Continent improves
to 5-0-1.
