Lady Cyclones fall to THS
from staff reports
Falling behind early to a strong
Tennessee High Lady Vikings squad saw the Betsy Lady Cyclones
try to forge a late rally. It would be to no avail however,
as THS took a 3-nil first half lead enroute to a 5-0 whitewashing
of Elizabethton.
"We ran into a good 3-A team," said
EHS coach Bill McClay. "We gave up a goal early and kind of
fell back on our heels a little bit. In spurts we played well,
but I think we were also afraid to make a mistake so we never
really attacked."
The Vikings got first half goals
from Terry Broglio at the 3-minute mark, while Katelin Carswell
tallied at the 25:00 mark and Alex Lyons closed out the first
half with a score at the 32:00 mark.
"To win this we would have to play
at the top of our game," McClay said. "THS is very good technically.
They cross the field with the ball well, and if we had not
let them score early we may have been able to build some confidence
and say "We can play with them", but it didn't happen."
The second half saw Broglio score
her ninth goal of the season to stake Tennessee High to a
four-goal lead and Allison Hodge scored late to close out
the scoring.
EHS falls to 6-6 overall after this
non-region match and will face Daniel Boone at Brown-Childress
Stadium on Thursday night, with time of the match set for
7 p.m.
