Cyclone freshmen trip Tennessee High in OT

from staff reports

BRISTOL -- EHS quarterback Travis Jeffers scored a pair of touchdowns -- the last of which came in overtime -- as 'Betsy beat Tennessee High 18-12 in freshman football action Thursday volleyball.
"Our defense played real well tonight," commented coach Ryan Witten. "We made a heck of a stand in overtime, with Jesse Hampton, David Bray and Logan Hyatt having strong games."
With the score knotted at 12-12, Bristol got first crack in the extra session but big plays by Hampton and an interception by J.C. Atkinson turned the Vikings away and 'Betsy took over at the 10 yard line.
Three plays later the Cyclones stood at the Vikings 1-yard line, and on fourth down Jeffers snuck it in for the game-winner.
"We are 2-0 and it's been a while since we have been 2-0," said Witten. "We got great play from the offensive line, starting with Lucas Deloach and Chris Wagner."
The 'Betsy freshmen play at Dobyns-Bennett next Thursday.
