Buffs lose in soccer, prevail in volleyball

   Union scores three consecutive goals in the second half to put Milligan away 4-2 in a men's soccer match on Tuesday night.
   Senior Paula Caninue Neto scored three goals to lead Union to their first win of the season.
   Milligan had many chances in second half to come back in the match but could not take advantage of the opportunities. The Buffs were playing without the services of their top goal scorer Jason Hotchkin due to a red card in the previous game.
   Milligan tied the game up in the 21st minute with a goal by freshmen Michael Hurley. It was the first goal in Hurley's short college career.
   The game was tied at halftime 1-1.
   Union came out of halftime flat. Milligan took advantage in the 48th minute when Alex Kimani stole the ball from the Union defender and centered to Ryan Boggs for the go-ahead goal.
   Milligan could only hold the lead for three minutes when Neto scored his second goal of the night to tie the game at two.
   Union scored two more goals in the 60th and 66th minute to put the game away.
   Milligan falls to 4-1 and 1-1 in the conference. Union improves to 1-2 and 1-0 in the conference.
   Milligan will travel on Saturday to play Tennessee Wesleyan in a very important conference match.
   Seniors lead Milligan to sweep
   BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. --Milligan's volleyball team continues its hot start to put away Montreat in three games.
   Seniors Wendy Weaver and Melanie Reed led the offensive punch with 12 kills apiece.
   Senior Heather Lanning picked up 18 assists and Sarah Beair helped out with 18 more to help pace the Lady Buffs.
   Melody Black-led the back row with 8 digs and 4 service aces.
   With the win, Milligan improves to 8-3 and 3-0 in the conference.
   The Buffs will host three conference opponents this weekend. They will play Bryan College on Friday night at 7. On Saturday, they will host both Tennessee Wesleyan and Covenant College.
   The TWC match will start at 10:30 a.m. and the Covenant match will start at 3:30 p.m.
