EHS trips up Blazers

from staff reports

GRAY -- Sophomore Samantha McClay scored a pair of goals to bookend goals by Katie Presnell and Ashley Green as the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones overcame a lethargic first half to beat Daniel Boone 4-1 at DBHS on Tuesday night.
"We were all over them, but made a mistake and gave them a quick score," commented Bill McClay, EHS head coach. "After that, the girls stepped up the level of intensity. We had lots of shots on goal in this game."
Betsy out-shot the Trailblazers 40-6 with most of the shots coming in the second half as EHS awoke from it's malaise and began peppering the Boone goal.
McClay answered the initial Blazers tally with a goal at the 17-minute mark to send the contest to a 1-1 draw after 40 minutes of play.
In the second half, it was all Betsy as Presnell booted home an assist from Green at the 50-minute mark to give EHS a 2-1 lead.
"We were in their end almost the entire way," said McClay. "We had one mistake early on, but the defense turned it up the rest of the way."
Also scoring in the second half was Green who converted an assist by Cassidy Hyatt into a goal that gave Betsy a 3-1 advantage.
McClay also tallied once again with time winding down to put the capper on an exciting win for the Lady Cyclones who improved to 3-2 on the young season.
