E-Twins rally past Rays

  from staff reports
PRINCETON, W.Va. -- Tarrence Patterson scored the tie-breaking run on a balk during a three-run ninth for Elizabethton, which trailed by as many as four runs in its 10-8 Appalachian League win over Princeton Sunday night.
Trailing 8-7 entering the final inning, the Twins got a base hit from Jay Yaconetti before Tim Lahey was hit by a pitch and Luke Hughes reached on an error, enabling Matt Tolbert, who was pinch-running for Yaconetti, to score.
Patterson was serving as a pinch-runner for Lahey when he came home. A Trevor Plouffe bunt single brought home Hughes for the final run.
Frank Mata (2-2) pitched the final 2.1 innings for the victory, giving up no hits or runs and striking out three batters.
Plouffe finished up with a 4-for-6, 2-RBI effort, followed by Deacon Burns, who homered for the second straight night in a 3-for-6 showing that included two runs.
Johnny Woodard (two runs) also went deep for the second straight night, and he, Yaconetti (two RBIs) and Javier Sanchez each banged out two hits. Yaconetti connected for a home run.
Elizabethton closes out its season tonight at Princeton.
