Nobody could touch Eric Carter on the front nine Wednesday.
In a district match between Elizabethton, Happy Valley and Hampton, Carter shot a one-under-par 35 to lead the Cyclones with the best overall team score at the Elizabethton Golf Course.
The top four Cyclone golfers totaled 161 strokes, with Happy Valley placing second with 172 and Hampton finishing in third with 190.
Carter's teammate, sophomore Jacob Thomas, was the only other golfer to shoot in the thirties with his 38.
Both players birdied two holes, but Thomas hit with some bogies down the stretch.
Carter birdied the par-three third hole and the par-five fifth, while shooting one-over on the fourth hole.
Thomas, during the first time he's broken 40 strokes in prep play, birdied the second and fifth holes. The sophomore said his round was "awesome" and noted it was the best he's done in high school.
Happy Valley's Ricky Morgan had the third-best individual outing with a 40 on the front. Morgan birdied the ninth hole along with his five bogeys.
Hampton's Caleb Smith was fourth with a 42. He also birdied two holes, but had six bogeys.
For the Elizabethton team, Jared Thomas and Caleb Tull each shot a 44 to assist the squad. Senior Jonathan Crowley also added a round of 52 for the unit.
Aside from Morgan, the Warriors finished in a cluster. B.J. Townsend shot a 43, Nate Howell made the team's four-player cut with a 44 and Bradley Gouge birdied the seventh hole en route to his 45.
Other team scores for Happy Valley include Matt Howell's 48, Josh Lowe's 49 and Justin Davis' 53. Uncounted team members Ryan May (49), Dustin Green (57) and Derek Gouge (53) also participated in Wednesday's quick round.
Aside from Smith's quality half of course play, the 'Dogs are trying to continue improvement on the fairways. Lucas Andrews, E.J. Newbern and Matthew Sams had a 46, 47 and 55, respectively, to add to Hampton's team score.
Josh Lewis shot a 47 and Bobby James added a 74 for the Bulldogs.
