After having a perfect season last year, the Hampton Jr. Bulldogs will look to rebuild this year.
"We lost the whole farm, out of about thirty players we had last year, we sent about twenty to the high school," said 'Dogs coach Kelly Oliver, who enters his ninth year as the head coach.
Last year, the 'Dogs won the Little Watauga Championship and posted a record of 10-0. The offense will be led by Dustin Roberson, who will be under center this season. The line will be led by the threesome of Logun Andrews, Brian Robertson, and Mario Pahuamba. Brett Price and Logun Shell will look to run the ball, while Billy Newman and Brandon Hodges will lead the receiving core.
"As of right now I think we have a big bulls eye on our back with losing so much talent last year. We have so much to replace this year," Oliver mentioned.
On the defensive side of the ball, Bradley Mizzel will lead a talented linebacker core, who the coaches have seen some good things in. The defensive backs are featured to be Roberson, Price, and Shell.
"We have some new kids out that haven't even played before, but hopefully I think we will be able to get some more to come out when school begins," said Oliver.
Hampton and the rest of the Little Watauga Conference will be in action tonight at Happy Valley, setting the kick-off for 6 p.m.
"I believe when we get things settled in and get some more practices, I think we should be real competitive," Oliver stated.
