KINGSPORT -- For the second year in a row, Jersey Mike's Subs
located in Kingsport, Johnson City and Bristol, and the Jersey
Mike's Franchise Systems in Wall, N.J., will sponsor its annual
Jersey Mike's Pro-Am Classic Golf Tournament at the Ridgefields
Country Club in Kingsport on Sept. 19.
The fund-raising tournament will benefit the local chapters
of the American Red Cross and junior golf.
"We are delighted to help sponsor the Second Annual Jersey
Mike's Pro-Am Classic," said Peter Cancro, president of Jersey
Mike's Franchise Systems. "We have always encouraged our franchises
to get involved in community affairs and support worthy causes
in their area.
"With the proceeds of this tournament going to the area chapters
of the American Red Cross and junior golf, the Jersey Mike's
in this area are certainly doing just that and we are very
happy to participate.
The tournament will be a team event, with teams being made
up of one professional and four amateurs. The professionals
will also be competing for prize money on their own ball at
the same time, while the Amateurs will compete for gift certificates
in the Ridgefields Golf Shop.
The team entry fee is $500, with the four amateurs paying
$125, which includes carts and a Jersey Mike's lunch, provided
at the conclusion of play. The 32 five-person teams must consist
of one TPGA or LPGA professional or apprentice in good standing
and four amateurs (male or female).
Each amateur will donate approximately $43 to area American
Red Cross chapters and $7 to area junior golfers as part of
the fee. Receipts will be available for tax purposes.
The tourney will be a Level III state points event for the
professionals, with the winner earning 50 points towards the
professional player of the year. Pros in the top 20 will win
points towards the statewide honor.
There is a significant prize money increase for the pros and
teams that will be awarded at the conclusion of play. A professional
can win as much as $1200 this year if he wins the individual
pro competition and his team wins first place.
All professionals will receive a minimum $50 for entering
a team, which the first 32 will fill the field.
