'Betsy gets past K-Mets
from staff reports
KINGSPORT -- A mini roller-coaster ride took
the Elizabethton Twins one game closer to Bristol, the Appy
League's West Division leader, on Tuesday night.
Blowing a lead, then immediately taking it back,
the Twins handed Kingsport its 21st loss in 25 games with
a 10-7 decision at Hunter-Wright Stadium.
Combined with Bristol's 8-4 loss to Pulaski,
Elizabethton (35-26) stands two games back of the White Sox
with a week's worth of games to play.
Ricky Barrett got the start for 'Betsy on Tuesday
and gave a sound performance, giving up two runs and four
hits in six innings of work. He struck out six.
However, the Mets rallied after Barrett left
the game, tallied five runs in the seventh to seize a 7-6
advantage.
The Twins, though, answered with four runs in
the eighth. Following back-to-back walks, Felix Molina, Garret
Guzman and Danny Matienzo ripped consecutive singles to sink
the Kingsport hopes.
Kingsport tried to mount another rally, but Pat
Neshek entered in the eighth and struck out all four batters
he faced to nab his 13th save of the year.
'Betsy begins a four-game set at Pulaski tonight,
then start a season-ended three-game home set vs. Johnson
City on Sunday.
