McCarty to perform for Milligan College

from staff reports

Dobyns-Bennett track standout Katie McCarty has announced she'll run collegiately for Milligan College.
McCarty finished seventh in the finals of the 300 meter hurdles at the TSSAA AAA State Championships held in Memphis this past May, and also earned a runner-up finish at the Region I Championships behind eventual state runner-up Meghan Lyons from Greeneville. She finished fourth in the triple jump at the Region I championships.
"Simply put, Katie is an athlete. She has a gymnastics background, and can compete in a number of events," said Milligan head coach Chris Layne. "The struggle will be determining which events to focus on, and that's an agreement we'll reach together."
McCarty, who signed at Dobyns-Bennett High School on Wednesday, chose Milligan over ETSU and King College.
Milligan also announced the addition of new assistant coach Kari Wichter-Davis, a former Milligan cross country athlete.
"Kari will be a great addition to our staff. She has a good knowledge base, complemented by a great deal of enthusiasm," said Layne.
Both the men's and women's cross country teams will open up Sept. 4 at Virginia Tech.
