E-Twins ride Burt's bat past Bluefield

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- Landon Burt didn't know it
at the time, but he put the Elizabethton Twins over the top
again.
In the second game of a three-game road stretch,
Burt went three of four with two doubles and two RBIs to lead
the 'Betsy Bombers to a 5-4 victory at the historic Bowen
Field.
Elizabethton took its second and final lead of
the game in the top of the ninth inning after 'The Deke',
Deacon Burns went yard for his sixth homer of the year.
Johnny Woodard singled and stole second before
Burt singled to left to bring the winning run home.
Bluefield made a valiant effort at a comeback
in the ninth when Lorenzo Scott singled and scored on a Ryan
Finan double. However, Frank Mata came through to get the
save.
Jay Sawatski got the win after only giving up
one run in two innings of work. Jason Bowlin struck out two
and walked one in his one inning after replacing Alexander
Smith who gave up Bluefield's other three runs.
Bluefield got on the board first in the opening
inning when Brad Wiggins singled Carlos Mendez across the
plate.
Elizabethton retaliated in the second when Woodard
walked and David Winfree singled, setting up Burt's first
double, which produced the Twins' first run.
Winfree would later score on a passed ball.
The Orioles got even again with Mendez doubling
Scott across the plate in the bottom of the inning. They regained
the lead in the bottom of the third when Matthew Pulley scored
during an Elizabethton double play.
In the top of the fifth, Elizabethon got its third
run when Tarrence Patterson singled and scored on a passed
ball.
Patterson and Burns each added two hits apiece
for Elizabethton, while Scott, Mendez and Pulley contributed
a pair each for the O's.
Wilken Feliz grabbed his first loss of the season
after giving up both Elizabethton runs in the ninth inning
before Dionis Pascual finished things off for the Bluefield
staff. 791 people attended the three-hour thriller.
