ET Riverdogs get job done in 'Rumble'

By Ivan Sanders

Cannon-Gouge Field was alive with 14-under AAU teams this past weekend as 'Rumble in the Mountains' wrapped up with championship play on Sunday afternoon.
The host East Tennessee Riverdogs fought through some stiff competition before being able to keep the first place hardware at home by defeating the Atlanta North Giants 10-7.
With wins over the Bristol, Va. All Stars (12-2), Bourbon County (6-2), and Sullivan East (12-0) the Riverdogs earned a spot opposite the Atlanta North Giants.
The Giants posted wins over Bristol Avoca All Stars (13-2), Knoxville Impact (10-6), and the East Patriots (10-4) to make the championship round.
Christian Taylor paced the Riverdogs from the mound and at the dish as the fastball pitcher hurled six and one-third innings to take the win while collecting a double and two singles from an offensive standpoint.
In the consolation game, the Impact team from Knoxville just barely survived the Bourbon County team from Lexington, Ky. by a score of 7-6 to take home third place for its three-day effort.
With the great turnout and the stiff competition from all the teams that participated, 'Rumble in the Mountains' will hopefully continue to grow with more teams participating in the future.
