Immanuel extends FFB in church league finals

from staff reports
Immanuel Baptist Church had to win Monday night in order to have a chance for the Carter County Church League softball title.
Shrugging off a three-run homer from First Freewill Baptist's Lance Dugger, Immanuel scored a combined 19 runs in the final three innings to pull away with a 22-9 victory at Cat Island Field.
Immanuel scored three runs in the first inning before spreading things out with seven in the third and six apiece in the fourth and fifth.
The big boost came from a Michael Greenlee three-run triple and doubles from Adam Turley, Danny Akers, Mark Connell, Dickey Lyons, Adam Walton and Stacy Bryan.
Akers added a homer in the fifth inning, were Doug Hinshaw and Chase Turley brought across two runs apiece to spread out their lead.
First Freewill staged a comeback in the fifth inning, with a David Bowers errored shot driving in two runs. David Dykes knocked in two runs with his single while Dugger contributed another ribbie.
The six runs wouldn't be enough as Immanuel forced a deciding championship game for 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Akers, Greenlee, Lyons and Bryan each knocked in three hits while Thomas Guess, Turley, Connell, Lyons and Mick Matheson all added two hits a piece for Immanuel.
Dugger led First Freewill Baptist with two hits.
After the church league concludes Tuesday, the open league wraps up on Wednesday, bringing an end to the adult league softball season.
