CCA musters late heroics to defeat JC American

from staff reports
The first annual 11-year-old Mid-Summer Classic all-star tournament got off to a rousing start on Monday night at T.J. Burleson Field.
Erasing a four-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning, Carter County American went on to post a 15-14, seven-inning victory over Johnson County American.
Trailing 14-10, CCA was down to its final out while batting in the sixth, but Jonathan Chapman and Knox Eryasa sparked a little hope with back-to-back singles.
From there, Tyler Jaynes roped a two-run triple off the right-field fence, then Micah Cates and Zack Boles added singles of their own to knot the score.
After holding JCA in the top of the seventh, Chapman got things started again for CCA by reaching on an error. After Eryasa banged out a base hit, Justin Pierce singled home Chapman for the deciding run.
Chapman got the win in the relief, while Eryasa and Dakota Waters led the CCA bats with 3-for-4 efforts. Adding two hits apiece to the victory were Dan Campbell, Jaynes, Pierce and Chapman.
Jordan Eddy batted 3-for-4 to top the JCA output. Charlie Schill followed at 2-for-3.
CCA and Elizabethton National will do battle at 6 p.m. tonight.
