E-Twins rally past Orioles

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- The Elizabethton Twins rallied for a 7-6 victory over Bluefield Friday night when Jesse Collins and Dusty Gomon ripped back-to-back doubles in the seventh inning, driving in a combined three runs.
After Collins hit a two-run double that erased a 6-4 Bluefield advantage, Gomon's two-bagger drove in Collins with the winning run.
Collins turned in a sparkling offensive performance for Elizabethton, going 3-for-5 with a solo home run, two doubles, three RBIs and three runs.
Gomon, who totaled two RBIs, and Brock Peterson, who had a pair of doubles, both batted 2-for-4. Justin Arneson also went 2-for-4, with Denard Span going 2-for-5 and scoring twice.
Pitching in relief of starter Dennis Medina, Chris Marini (2-1) worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings to collect the win.
Medina pitched 4 2/3 innings, keeping the Orioles under control until the fifth, in which he surrendered five runs.
Kevin Culpepper and Julio DePaula shut down Bluefield over the final three innings, with DePaula recording the final five outs for his third save of the season.

Bluefield leadoff batter Elvin Morel went 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI double, sending Bluefield to victory in a slugfest with the Twins.
The Orioles finished with 14 hits and Elizabethton 12.
Bluefield's Travis Brown added a 2-for-4 effort of his own, collecting two RBIs. Also for the Orioles, Cory Shafer belted a grand slam and Francisco Guerrero a solo home run.
Catcher Kyle Phillips topped the Twins, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs before a sixth-inning collision with Bluefield runner Landon Wareham forced him to leave the contest.
