Elizabethton collects all-star
win
from staff reports
Despite getting off to a rough start against
Jonesboro on Monday night, the Elizabethton National Girls
11-12 year-old all-stars have registered their first win in
District Play.
Tuesday night's game with Bluff City was Elizabethton
all the way as the 'Betsy gang recorded a 14-3 victory.
Elizabethton lost the toss and started with the
bats in a game where they never quit.
The inning was led by Kadey Robinson, who was
hit by a pitch and rallied to steal her way all the way home
to get the 'Betsytown girls fired up.
Bluff City struggled on the mound to walk walk
batters in the first inning.
Rebeccah Morrow ruled the mound for 'Betsy.
Morrow registered a total of seven strikeouts
while only allowing only batters to advance on hits.
Elizabethton was relentless with a solid showing
both in the field and at the plate.
The 'Betsy bats rallied every inning, with stolen
bases being a key part of the success.
The top of the fourth showed Elizabethton up
8-2 and the bats were rattling. Madison McKinney advanced
to first with a walk and managed two stolen bases when McKenzie
Eggers blasted a home run shot to left field.
'Betsy continued the streak in the fourth inning,
with Mariah Pietrowski, Rebeccah Morrow, Courtney Byers and
Cassie Johnson all advancing to first and stealing their way
to home for a 14-2 Elizabethton lead.
Morrow took the mound at the bottom of the fourth
determined to shut it down early, allowing only one runner
to advance with a walk.
Bluff City just couldn't bring it together, and
the game was called in the bottom of the fourth inning.
