'Betsy falls to Burlington from staff reportsBURLINGTON, N.C. -- Burlington DH Micah Schilling lined a walk-off RBI single to left-center field with one out in the 10th inning as the Indians picked up a 5-4 Appy League win over Elizabethton on Thursday night. Teodoro Encarnacion roped a one-out triple to the gap in right-center field before Schilling brought him home, enabling the Indians to take their second victory in a three-game series. The Indians never trailed in the game, opening the scoring with a solo homer by Fernando Pacheco in the third inning, his second of the season. Elizabethton (14-15) tied the game in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Doug Deeds. The Indians went up 3-1 in the fifth on a homer by Aaron Davidson, his first of the year (and second hit). Later in the inning, Ricardo Rojas hit a sacrifice fly. Elizabethton cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Dusty Gomon. The Indians made it 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth on Pacheco's sacrifice fly. The Twins scored one in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Edgardo LeBron and tied it in the eighth inning on a homer by Peter Martinez. The Indians put two runners on with one out in the eighth inning and Matt Whitney smashed a ball down the line that LeBron was able to catch on the dive on one hop, limiting him to an infield single. And Eider Torres bounced into a 1-2-3 double play. After the ninth inning, home plate umpire John Bennett pulled the teams off the field for 18 minutes due to lightning. Burlington Honeudis Pereyra (4-2) pitched the final 2 1-3 innings, allowing no hits or runs while walking one and striking out three. Elizabethton Nick Niedbalski (0-2) pitched two innings, allowing the go-ahead run in the 10th.
