Jonesborough turns back light-hitting
Elizabethton
from staff reports
JONESBOROUGH -- Good defense and bend-but-don't
break pitching were on Elizabethton's side Tuesday night,
but the 'Betsy bats just didn't have enough spark to get the
job done in an all-star contest against Jonesborough.
Elizabethton mustered just three hits in a 4-1
loss in District 5, 13-14 year-old play.
Hard-luck loser Ryann Musick (4 IP, 2 Ks, 6 hits)
and Mary Edgar (3 IP, 6 Ks, 5 hits) scattered 11 hits over
seven innings of work, and did well at keeping Jonesborough
runners stranded on base.
This was a very tight-fisted game until the fifth,
when Jonesborough pushed across three runs on the strength
of four hits to seize a 4-0 advantage.
'Betsy averted a shutout in the seventh as Kendall
Blackston led off with a double, moved over to third, then
scored on a wild pitch.
Blackston accounted for two of Elizabethton's
hit, while Tia Nave had a hit of her own.
Elizabethton will be back in Jonesborough tonight,
taking on Greeneville in a losers bracket game at 8:30 p.m.
