Carter County All-Stars earn shot at title

   It was a game to remember in the winners bracket final of the 9-10 year-old, Zone 3 Little League All-Star tournament being played at South Holston.
   In a see-saw battle till the very end, Carter County American emerged with a 13-12 victory over Johnson City Major on Wednesday to earn a spot in Saturday's championship at 7 p.m.
   CCA will face the winner of tonight's game between Johnson City Major and Fairview.
   Trailing 10-8 after four innings of play, Carter County struck for two runs in the top of the fifth, held Johnson City scoreless, then tallied three times in the sixth for a 13-10 advantage.
   J.C. Major made it interesting in the bottom of the sixth, scoring twice, but Josh Peterson preserved the CCA victory and picked up the win from the mound.
   Johnson City's pitching could not keep pace with the smoking bats of CCA as the Americans pounded out 15 hits.
   Peterson, 3-for-4; Justin Pierce, 2-for-2; and Brett Price, 2-for-2; led the way for Carter County at the dish, followed by Franky Covarrubias, Knox Eryasa and Jake Hodge at 2-for-4 apiece. Dakota Waters chipped in a 1-for-2 effort.
   Leading a five-hit Johnson City attack was Will Carter with a 2-for-4 output. Daniel Norris was 1-for-2, while David Stevens and Noah Hughes each went 1-for-3.
   Aggressive baserunner contributed to the CCA win.

   With every player on the CCA club collecting at least one hit, this contest proved to be quite lopsided.
   Micah Cates, Brett Price, Zack Naylor, Josh Peterson, Jake Hodge, Knox Eryasa, Justin Pierce and Cody Scalf did the big damage offensively for CCA, which got a nice pitching performance from winner Dakota Waters.
   CCA started and finished strong, scoring five runs in the first and eight in the fifth.
   Wesley Trivette batted 2-for-3 to top South Holston. Joe Slagle, Tyler Richardson and Keith Hunt chipped in 1-for-2 showings.
