Elizabethton, Carter County forge ahead

   Through two games of the 9-10 Little League All-Star tournament in Erwin, Elizabethton National has shown it will be a tough team to beat.
   After whipping up on Jonesborough for a 17-7 victory on Monday, 'Betsy followed up with a 6-0 blanking of Unicoi County on Tuesday.
   Versus Unicoi, Chad Depew yielded just one hit and collected four strikeouts in a winning effort. Cody Hyder, Jordan Hodges, Joe Guinn, Ethan Fleenor and Logan Loving contributed two hits apiece to key the offense, with Hodges accounting for a bases-loaded double.
   The Jonesborough tilt saw Elizabethton tally 11 runs in the first inning, then cruise to victory.
   Derek Mann swung the big bat for 'Betsy, batting 3-for-4. Hyder, Chambers, Guinn and Hodges each banged out two hits.
   CCA turns back Fairview
   SOUTH HOLSTON -- Led by Josh Peterson's red-hot bat, Carter County American branded Fairview with an 8-5 defeat Monday in the Zone 3 9-10 Little League All-Star tournament
   Peterson went 3-for-3 with a triple to lead CCA, which broke a 5-5 tie with three runs in the top of the fifth.
   Knox Eryasa and Franky Covarrubias each batted 1-for-1 for the winners, who got a 1-for-2 showing from Jake Hodge and a 1-for-3 from Dakota Waters.
   Justin Pierce got the job done on the mound, recording the win.
   Tops for Fairview were Tyler Place, 3-for-4; Corey Odell, 2-for-2; and Austin Easterly, 1-for-2.
   Elizabethton rips Bluff City/Blountville
   ERWIN --Elizabethton National was walking on easy street during its opening contest of the 11-12 Little League District 5 All-Stars, romping to a 29-0 win over Bluff City/Blountville.
   Showing the way for 'Betsy was Summer Smith, who went 3-for-4 with three runs; Emily Jenkins, 3-for-5 with a home run and two doubles; Jasmine Treadway, three hits, including a triple, and four runs; and Madison McKinney, 2-for-2 with a double.
   Leslie Guinn did a fine job as well, tagging a home run and a triple in three at-bats. Hannah Banks had two hits while Hannah Fritz ripped a homer.
   Audra Backers fired a four-inning no-hitter for Elizabethton, striking out five batters.
   'Betsy returns to action tonight, facing either Greeneville or Unicoi County at 6.
