Ron's Masonry, Wayne's Home Maintenance and Birchfield Construction each registered wins in the Carter County League baseball play on Saturday at Unaka Elementary.
In game 1, Ron's Masonry used the big inning to down Estep Trucking 13-7. Lucas Hitchew picked up the victory on the mound.
Tyler Shell provided the lumber as he went 2 for 2 with five RBIs. Cody McKinney, Ronald Banner and the pitcher Hitchew each collected a hit apiece.
Darrin Morton took the loss for Estep Trucking. Ron's Masonry scored five runs in the first to jump out to an early lead and added eight more in the second to dig the Truckers a hole they couldn't get out of.
The Truckers used a big inning of their own to get back in the game as they plated seven runs of their own in the third.
Josh Berry led the Truckers, going 2 for 3 on the day. Lucas Arnold and Mickey Tanner each had a hit during the Trucker's seven-run barrage in the third.
Ron's Masonry was clearly on the ropes; however, the league's time-limit rule was in effect and the masons held on for the win.
Wayneâ*ús Home Maintenance 4
Mountain Empire Medical 2
In the second game, Wayne'ss Home Maintenance downed Mountain Empire Medical 4-2. Chris Beach gave a dominating performance on the mound as he recorded every single out for his team via the strikeout.
His final tally on the day was nine strikeouts. Beach allowed only one hit but it was a costly one.
After Beach hit Austin Mullins and walked Justin Douglas, Aaron Bunton doubled home both his team's runs on the day.
Wayne's Home Maintenance scored two runs in the first without benefit of a hit. The home maintenance squad used aggressive baserunning to earn its runs in the first as stolen bases and one costly throwing error on the catcher led to the early lead.
As Beach was racking up the strikeouts, his mound counterpart's lack of control cost Mountain Empire Medical dearly as three free passes and a hit batsmen gave Wayne's Home Maintenance a 3-2 lead.
Beach used some nifty baserunning to give himself an insurance run in the third. Beach reached on an error then promptly stole second and third.
Beach then baited the catcher into an attempt to pick him off, and made his way home to give his team a 4-2 lead. He made the lead stand as he made quick work of the first two batters in Mountain Empire's final at-bat.
Beach then seemed to toy with the opposing team as he walked the bases full and then struck out the final batter to end the game.
Birchfield Construction 8
Simmons Roofing & Siding 7
In the final baseball game of the day, Birchfield Construction topped Simmons Roofing & Siding 8-7.
Thomas Blevins picked up the win on the mound for Birchfield and Ricky Berry took the loss. Daniel Fleenor collected a save in relief of Blevins. Tyler Carr was the heavy hitter on the day for Birchfield as his three-run home run to dead center gave his team a quick lead. Frankie Covarrubias led Simmons in hitting, going 2 for 3.
