The U15 East Tennessee Riverdogs were off to a
good start in the Music City of Nashville tournament, but
came up short to the Smyrna Bulldogs in the championship round
after defeating them earlier in pool play.
The Riverdogs knocked off the SW Georgia Bulldogs
7-0, and then had a tough game with Smyrna, in which they
pulled out a 6-1 victory late in the game. The 'Dogs fell
to the Tennessee Copperheads in a 3-2 thriller off a last-inning
wild pitch.
The Riverdogs came out of pool play as the No.
3 seed out of 16 top class teams. Another local team, The
Heat, out of Johnson City, ended up as the No. 8 seed. Both
teams fell in the championship round.
Next weekend, the Riverdogs return to Nashville
for the 2004 USSSA State Tournament which they qualified for
by winning the Worth Hardball Classic in Johnson City earlier
this year. After the state tournament, the team will take
a week off before heading out to Kissimmee, Fla. for the USSSA
World Series.
