Moose, Expert Express post JBR victories

By Tim Chambers

Two games were played Monday night in Jr. Babe Ruth action, with the Moose and Expert Express earning wins to remain tied for second place in the league standings.
Moose jumped all over Elks 14-0 before Expert Express rolled past Elizabethton Herb & Metal 13-2.
   Moose 14
   Elks 0
When moose and Elk get together to lock horns, something got to give. Thus was the case between the Bullwinkles and the Reindeers. The Moose was solid like a rocky squirrel while the reindeer had trouble getting their sled off the ground.
Moose jumped on top in the first inning when Jeff Peters tripled to start the game and scored on a single by Daniel Shankle. Brooks Price sent a ball deep to center that was dropped, and he later scored on a double by Thomas Dearstone for a 3-0 advantage.
Aaron Taylor's RBI single extended the lead at 4-0.
After singles from Jonathan Canady and Daniel Shankle, Price delivered a double for a 7-0 margin. Moose tacked on two more thanks in part to two hits from Taylor and Canady for a 9-0 advantage.
Moose got on the loose once again in the third after Peters singled and Dearstone crushed an inside-the-park home run to put the Bullwinkles up by a comfortable margin.
The Reindeers kept hoping Santa might come early, but by the fourth inning he was still a no show. Elks threatened in the fourth when Jake "The Big Hurt" Thomas and Tim Franklin opened the inning with hits, but were unable to push across a run.
Peters led the attack going 2 for 2 while Shankle, Dearstone and Taylor added 2-for-3 efforts. Price, Dalton Williams and Canady each had a hit for Moose.
Thomas and Franklin had the only hits for the Elks. Peters pitched the win while Thomas took the loss.
   Expert Express 13
   Elizabethton Herb & Metal 2
The trio of Jeff Wilson, Wendell Loving and Travis Bishop combined for a no-hitter to lead Expert past Elizabethton Herb & Metal. The Truckers got off to a slow start but used an explosive second inning en route to seven runs.
Two walks, an error and a hit bats man would set the table, and supper was about to be served. Nick Papantoniou delivered a single before Logan Shultz unloaded another for a 5-0 lead.
Wesley Keylon, Travis Bishop and Jeff Wilson singled, and Nick McNeal added a double to push the lead at 7-0.
Triples by Loving and McNeal to start the third set the stage for a five-run inning. Bishop would deliver another hit as did Will Wagner and Papantoniou in the next inning, keeping Expert tied with Moose for second place.
McNeal, Bishop, and Papantoniou led the attack, each going 2 for 3, while Shultz was 1 for 1. Loving, Keylon, Wilson and Jeremy Wright contributed to the cause with one hit each.
Expert will take on Moose tonight at 7, in the final regular-season game, for second place. The league tournament begins Wednesday night at 8:30 with one game slated.
