E-Express, Herb/Metal undenied

By Tim Chambers

Play resumed Monday night at Elizabethton High School with Expert Express and Elizabethton Herb & Metal earning wins. Expert threw a monkey wrench into the league standings with a 4-3 win over David's Trophies, and the Reds knocked off Citizens Bank 13-1 in the nightcap.
   Expert Express 4, David's Trophies 3
The first game lived up to its billing as Expert Express knocked off once-defeated David's Trophies 4-3 in a game decided on the final at bat.
Nick McNeal and Scott Burleson hooked up in a pitchers' duel, with neither team able to muster much offense. The plaque attack looked to break the game open in the second by scoring three runs on a walk, an error and three hits.
Brandon Medina led off with a double that dropped between two outfielders, and scored on an RBI single by Matt Rasnick. Blake Russell reached on an error and later scored on a single by Franky Birchfield, giving David's a 3-0 advantage.
Expert battled back to score two in the same inning. Travis Bishop reached on an error and later scored on a single by Jeff Wilson. After Isaiah Osborne reached on a fielder's choice, Will Wagner smacked a double to right center, slicing the lead to 3-2.
The game remained scoreless until the last inning. Two errors and a fielder's choice allowed the D-backs to tie the game.
The plaque attack then elected to bring in Medina to relieve Burleson, who walked McNeal to load the bases. With one swing of the bat, Bishop sent a solid single to right, scoring Loving to earn a hard-fought victory for Express.
Wilson led Expert, going 2 for 2, while Loving, Bishop and Wagner chipped in with one each. Burleson, Medina, Rasnick, Russell and Birchfield had the only hits for the Giants.
Elizabethton Herb & Metal Reds 13
   Citizens Bank 1
The Reds made scrap metal out of the Bankers, melting the vault for 13 runs to rob Citizens of a win. Walks were more plentiful than my waist size in this game, with the Reds scoring 10 times off free passes.
C.J. Campbell earned the win while Jonathan Nichols took the loss. Campbell led the hitting, going 2 for 3, while Tyler Blevins and Roy Edwards had the only other hits.
Daniel Simerly and Brandon Birchfield walked and scored three times each for the Reds.
Tyler Andes, Thomas Thorton and Mike Bowers had the only hits for the Braves.
Play resumes tonight with Expert Express taking on Citizens Bank at 6, and David's Trophies battling the Elks Cubs at 8.
