Trophies, Elks win decisively

   David's Trophies Giants and the Elks Cubs earned wins Sunday at Elizabethton High School in Babe Ruth play.

   The plaque attack kept its hold on first place with a 9-2 win over Citizens Bank in the first game of the afternoon. David's used a five-run third inning aided by five walks and a double by Cody Marley to break open a tight contest.
   Franky Birchfield, Brett Yelton and Brandon Medina pitched David's to the win. Aaron Bradford and Brandon Medina went 1 for 1 to lead David's while Marley, Mike Carpenter and Yelton had went 1 for 2.
   Josh Lewis had a single and drove in two runs for the Braves while Cory Blevins and Jonathan Nichols had the only other hits.
   Elks Cubs 11, Tetrick's Marlins 1
   The big fish proved to be a good appetite for the Cubs in the second contest being gobbled up in four innings because of the 10-run rule. After the Marlins took a 1-0 lead in the first, Elks responded with 10 in the first cruising to the win.
   Jake "The Big Hurt" Thomas collected five RBIs in the inning by slapping a double to deep left, then drilling a triple to the center-field wall later in the inning giving the Cubs a comfortable advantage.
   Josh Sorah was excellent on the mound going the distance for the win. Sorah allowed only three hits to earn the victory.
   Sorah helped his own cause, going 2-for-2 while Thomas and John Morrow added 2-for-3 performances. Peters, Jordan Meredith and D.J. Reece added solo hits for the Elks.
   J.D. Scalf, Josh Hardin and Brandon Potter had the only hits for the Marlins.
   Monday nights games features David's Trophies taking on Expert Express at 6 while Citizens Bank battles Elizabethton Herb & Metal at 8.
