APA Pool League teams set to compete at VFW

  From June 11-13, APA Pool League teams from the Tri-Cities area will compete at the VFW in Elizabethton for a local qualifying tournament.
  The winner of the 26 teams will advance to the $500,000 APA 8-Ball National Team Championships at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas from Aug. 20-28.
  Members have been participating in weekly league play during the past year and placing tops in their division during the summer, fall or spring sessions to become eligible to compete.
  There were more than 500 North American teams comprised the APA 8-Ball National Team Championships field last year.
  The APA based out of St. Louis, Mo., sanctions the world's largest amateur pool league. It is generally recognized as the Governing Body of Amateur Pool, having established the official rules, championships, formats and handicap system for the support of amateur billiards.
  The APA sponsors three major tournaments each year--the APA National Team Championships, the APA National SIngles Championships and the U.S. Amateur Championship--which pays out more than $1 million in cash and prizes annually.
