Caldwell tops All-Watauga baseball team

from staff reports

Todd Caldwell had a terrific season for the Happy Valley baseball team. The scary part for Warrior opponents is that he has two years left to play.
Only a sophomore, Caldwell is tops on this year's All-Watauga Conference squad, reeling in the prestigious player-of-the-year honor.
Emerging as an accomplished hitter, Caldwell perhaps did his best work on the mound, where the lefty posted a 7-3 mark and sparkling 1.50 earned-run average.
Also earning All-Watauga honors for the Warriors were pitchers Ryan Toney and Shannon Buchanan, outfielders Tim Whaley and Ryan Garland, first baseman Jordy Harrison and shortstop Ricky Morgan.
Outfielders Nat Treadway and Charles Peters received all-conference recognition for Elizabethton, as did third baseman Travis Bowers and pitchers Zach Stipe and Mitchell Blevins.
Representing Johnson County was catcher Nathan Paisley, as well as utility player Jesse Jenkins and pitchers Gary Evans and Michael Davis.
Adam Miller of Hampton made the team as a designated-hitter.
Pitcher-of-the-year accolades went to John Broyles of Unicoi County. Volunteer's Chuck McLain was selected as coach of the year.
