Moose, Trophies emerge on top

By Tim Chambers

Just like biscuits and gravy, it doesn't get any better than last night's game between the Moose Yankees and the Expert Express Diamondbacks in the Elizabethton Jr. Babe Ruth.
After eight innings of hard-nose baseball, Moose eeked out a 7-6 win over Expert Express in one of the top games of the year.
Terry Campbell and Nick McNeal hooked up in a pitchers' duel for seven innings before McNeal gave way to Wilson in the eighth. The game was tied at 4-4 in the fifth inning before Moose took a 5-4 lead on a triple by Larry Creed and a single from Brooks Price.
The truckers tied the score in the sixth on key his from McNeal and Travis Bishop. Moose won the game in the eighth when Brandon Whitehead came home on an error to end the game.
Jeff Peters had a big night, going 2 for 3 with a triple with two RBIs while Jonathan Canady, Creed, Price and Whitehead had one hit each.
McNeal had an awesome performance, going 3 for 3 with a triple for Expert Express.
Bishop helped the Dback cause, banging out a 2-for-3 effort that included a double. Wesley Keylon, Nick Papantoniou and Isaiah Osborne added one hit each.
Terry Campbell went the distance to get the win while Jeff Wilson took the hard-luck loss in relief.
   David's Trophies Giants 14
   Elks Cubs 8
The plaque attack used a four-run fifth inning to break open a close game in the opener.
Scott Burleson proved to be a thorn in the side of the Cubs as he ripped two triples off the left-center field fence and had another double. Burleson accounted for six RBIs on the evening.
The Elks jumped out to a 4-0 lead with Brandon Grindstaff, Andrew Church and Justin Peters banging out hits, but David's refused to quit.
The plaque attack erupted for six runs in the second to retake the lead, with Blake Russell crushing a two-run double to help the cause.
Michael Carpenter went the distance to get the win while Josh Sorah took the loss. Wyatt Penrod did a good job in relief for the Cubs.
Brandon Medina added two hits for the plaque attack while Russell went 1 for 1. Chris "bucket" Pierce, Matt Rasnick, Britt Yelton, Carpenter and Franky Birchfield helped the cause with one hit each.
Church led the Cubs by going 2 for 3. John Morrow, Tim Franklin, Brandon Grindstaff, Peters and Sorah added solo hits.
